Autodesk Now Shipping Lagoa Multiphysics for Softimage 3D Software

Autodesk announced that it has entered into a license agreement with Lagoa Technologies Inc. for its Lagoa Materials multiphysics simulation technology. Built by Thiago Costa with Autodesk Softimage software’s ICE (Interactive Creative Environment), the Lagoa multiphysics simulation framework helps create realistic simulations of the dynamic behavior of liquids, cloth, foam, plastic deformations and soft body collisions. Lagoa Materials multiphysics simulation technology is included in the recently announced Autodesk Entertainment Creation Suites Premium and in the just released Softimage 2011 Subscription Advantage Pack. When the video of the simulation was uploaded to Vimeo in mid-July, it received 300,000 views in the first day; a number that grew to well over one million by the end of the week.

With Lagoa, Softimage users will be able to create highly customized simulations with control properties that help govern incompressible fluids as well as inelastic, elastic and plastic deformations. Artists will be able to simulate fine detail interactions and collisions and use Lagoa simulator data to help create user-defined materials, particles and meshes. Lower resolution, interactive setups can be more quickly created from preset materials, allowing for more rapid effects previsualization of simulations requiring millions of points.

The multi-threaded Lagoa simulation framework was built using the powerful and highly flexible Softimage ICE development environment. Softimage ICE is a node-based, visual development platform for creating custom tools and stunning visual effects. ICE is designed to help reduce the complexity of creating custom effects by providing a visual development paradigm, reducing the need to write complex scripts or computer code. Panasonic Delivers AG-MSU10 Portable P2 Media Storage Unit for Quick Field Backups

Panasonic Solutions Company has announced the availability of the AG-MSU10 P2 Media Storage Unit, a lightweight mobile workflow tool that simplifies the process of backing-up P2 content.

Panasonic is offering users the choice of purchasing the storage unit without a drive (MSU10) or preconfigured with a 256GB enterprise-class solid-state drive (MSU10-SSD) or with a 500GB enterprise-class hard disk drive (MSU10-HDD). Delivering fast, stable transfer of data, the compact P2 Media Storage Unit removes the need for computers or larger, more expensive appliances in the field and can quickly free up P2 cards for additional shooting.

The MSU10 boasts a small form factor with two slots: one for a P2 card, and the second for the AG-MBX10 tray, which supports a 2.5” solid-state or hard drive (see pre-configured packages) for MSU10 back-up. The P2 Media Storage Unit offers the flexibility of AC or battery operation and includes USB 2.0 and eSATA interfaces for easy connection to NLEs. The MBX10 removable drive tray also includes USB 2.0 and eSATA interfaces. This bus-powered unit can be easily transported from the field and connected to NLEs, including PCs and Macs, to expedite the editing process. Content is transferred from a P2 card to the drive at four times real-time.

The MSU10 is ideal for field utilization and supports multiple workflows. In addition to back-up from the P2 card to the removable MBX10 tray drive, the MSU10 also allows offers Host and Device functions. This allows the unit to be a P2 card reader (when connected to a computer), or to host an external drive for copying to that drive.

The P2 Media Storage Unit features a 3.2” LCD screen and simple one-touch operation. It provides P2 thumbnail display for confidence and metadata review and supports master-quality 10-bit AVC-Intra (100/50) and DVCPRO HD, DVCPRO50, DVCPRO and DV recording formats. Clip-by-clip copying is also supported.

P2 HD all solid-state products offer high definition recording without the mechanical wear and environmental limitations of tape, hard disk, and optical disc based systems. P2 HD ensures the highest reliability, especially in challenging conditions of extreme temperature range, shock, and vibration. P2 HD products provide a significant reduction in maintenance costs, longer useful product life, and immediate access to recorded video (no need to digitize, ingest or create proxy video files) and metadata. P2 HD provides the reliability of solid-state production; the immediate connectivity to existing IT infrastructures; the speed, ease of use and portability of P2 cards; and interoperability with leading NLE systems.

Panasonic Announces December Delivery, Pricing for AG-AF100 4/3 inch Professional High-Definition Camcorder

Panasonic Solutions Company today announced that the AG-AF100, the industry’s first professional micro 4/3-inch video camcorder optimized for high-definition video recording, will start shipping on December 27th at a suggested list price of $4,995. Highly anticipated since its introduction at NAB earlier this year, the AF100 is poised to set new benchmarks in digital cinematography.

Targeted at the video and film production communities, the AF100 delivers the shallow depth of field and wider field of view of a large imager, with the flexibility and cost advantages of a growing line of professional quality, industry-standard micro 4/3-inch lenses, filters, and adapters. The full HD 1080 and 720 production camera offers superior video handling, native 1080/24p recording, variable frame rates, professional audio capabilities, and compatibility with SDHC and SDXC media.

The AF100 incorporates a large 4/3-inch,16:9 MOS imager that minimizes skew with fast imager scanning, and incorporates low pass filters for elimination of aliasing and moiré. Additionally, it has a built-in optical ND filter. The camcorder records 1080 at 60i, 50i, 30P, 25P (Native) and 24P (Native), and 720 at 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p and 24p native,in AVCHD’s highest-quality PH mode (maximum 24Mbps). The AF100 also records in AVCCAM’s HA (17 Mbps) and HE (6Mbps) modes, 1080i only. Ready for global production standards, the camcorder is 60Hz and 50Hz switchable. Equipped with an interchangeable micro 4/3-inch lens mount, the AF100 can utilize an array of low-cost, widely-available still camera lenses as well as film-style lenses with fixed focal lengths and primes.

Variable frame rates are available in 1080p, selectable in 20 steps from 12p to 60p at 60Hz and 20 steps from 12p to 50p at 50Hz. Standard professional interfaces include uncompressed 4:2:2, 8 Bit HD-SDI out; HDMI out; and USB 2.0. It records SMPTE timecode and is able to perform timecode synchronizing via the video output seeing timecode in. It has a built-in stereo microphone and features two mic/line, switchable XLR inputs with +48V Phantom Power capability. The camera can record 48-kHz/16-bit two-channel digital audio recording (in PH mode only) and supports LPCM/Dolby-AC3 in any of the modes.

This newest Panasonic AVCCAM camcorder is the first to enjoy the benefits of advanced SDXC media card compatibility in addition to existing SDHC card support. SDXC is the newest SD memory card specification that supports memory capacities above 32GB and up to 2TB. With two SD slots for continuous recording, the AF100 can record up to 12 hours on two 64GB SDXC cards in PH mode, with automatic clip spanning across the two cards.

Weighing only 3.5 pounds (without lens or battery), the AF100 is packed with high-end features including Dynamic Range Stretch in all modes and frame rates; six built-in, customizable scene files that are exchangeable for quick and easy matching between multiple cameras; seven built-in gamma curves with four selectable color matrices; Syncro-scan shutter; and a high-resolution LCD and viewfinder.

It also offers a focus assist that can be used while recording, which is color-on peaking and a focus bar; two sets of adjustable zebras; two manual black and white balance choices, and preset White Balance at 3200K, 5600K or variable; a waveform monitor and vectorscope for more accurate monitoring of broadcast safe levels. Other essential features include pre-record; an intervalometer function that can be set for up to 24 hours, programmable User Buttons; a Smart Battery interface for recording up to four hours with a 5400mA battery; metadata recording; and a wireless infrared remote controller.

Panasonic will support the AF100 with a three-year limited warranty (one year plus two extra years upon registration).

The Foundry Announces CAMERATRACKER

The Foundry announced that version 1.0v2 of CAMERATRACKER now works with AE CS4 running on 32-bit versions of both Mac OS X and Windows (in addition to support for AE CS5 running on 64-bit versions of both flavours of OS). After Effects Camera Tracker and Match Mover:   CAMERATRACKER for After Effects allows users to pull 3D motion tracks and matchmoves without having to leave AE. It analyses the source sequence and extracts the original camera’s lens and motion parameters, allowing users to composite 2D or 3D elements correctly with reference to the camera used to film the shot.

Users can now match camera moves within Adobe After Effects’ 2.5D environment, opening up new, robust options for the placement of composite elements, such as the creation of Fringe / Heroes style ‘in scene’ titles, insertion of animated design elements, match-moved virtual set extensions, motion-tracked projection mapping and much more…

This 3d motion tracking technology was previously only available in NUKEX, the Foundry’s high-end film compositing tool. Users can now do all this in Adobe After Effects without exiting an application.

Boris FX Introduces Boris Continuum Complete 7 for Sony Vegas Pro 10

Boris FX, a developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, announced the immediate availability of Boris Continuum Complete 7 for Sony Vegas Pro (BCC 7 for Vegas Pro). Based on the Open Effects Assocation (OFX) platform, BCC 7 for Vegas Pro gives Sony editors a comprehensive collection of over 140 visual effects plug-ins. Customizable presets allow editors to quickly create high-end effects with no learning curve. Effects can be selectively applied via channel or region-based masks. All filters take advantage of either multi-processing or OpenGL hardware acceleration.

Boris Continuum Complete 7 for Sony Vegas Pro features include:

  • Professional Chroma Key Compositing. BCC 7 for Vegas Pro facilitates the creation of precise keys with a minimal amount of adjustment. The chroma key filters allow editors to control background filtering or matting, edge softening and refinement, and light wrapping and reflections to produce seamless composites.
  • Automated Motion Tracking. Powerful, specialized filters allow editors to recover motion data from a clip and then use the data to apply effects.
