6:00 pm - What's the BuZZ?

6:06 pm - David Lehre - Filmmaker

David Lehre is an American independent filmmaker, director and producer who is known for producing the popular MySpace: The Movie. He has been creating his own films since being denied a part in a school theater production of Little Women. Denied the opportunity to perform Lehre decided to make a film with his friends, despite not being sure how to make a movie.

Since completing the 11 minute parody of the popular social networking site with Jeremy Kerr, MySpace: The Movie has been viewed more than 6 million times through popular video site YouTube since being posted there on January 31st, just three days after being posted to Lehre's own site.

The film also has been on rotation on Current TV, a new network aimed at the 18-to-34-year-old audience that reaches 20 million U.S. homes but chances are more people have seen the movie via YouTube.

The film was written by Lehre and his best friend, Jeremy Kerr, and the skits were improvised by them and their friends. It took Lehre two months to film, edit and score the movie.

Lehre said he and his friends have 50 films to their credit and receive the support of local businesses, including a theater that screens their latest projects.

Since then Lehre's carrer has taken off with a development deal offer from MTVU, contact from Hollywood managers and a complimentary e-mail from MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson. re was recently offered a development deal by MTVU, which is MTV's on-air, online and on-campus network.

We'll find out directly from David just how valuable mssing out on high school theater productions can be for your carrer, what's happened to his career since MySpace: The Movie and how he thinks social networking sites like MySpace.com and video sharing sites like YouTube are changing the nature of distribution and promotion.

6:32 pm - Alex Ferrari and Jorge Flores Rodriguez - Writers/Producer/Director, "B R O K E N"

Alex Ferrari is the director of B R O K E N - an action/thriller short film call. Broken was produced for just US$8000 and contains over 100 VisualFX shots. We'll talk with Alex about how he can produce an effects movie on that budget and yet have Roger Ebert (Film Critic Chicago SunTimes/Ebert & Ropper) say:

BROKEN is essentially a demonstration of the mastery of horror imagery and techniques...effective and professional. Looking forward to “BROKEN: The Feature."

BROKEN has been accepted into over 20 international Film Festivals and there's a :50 sec trailer online. If the movie matches the trailer then it is an exceptional piece of work for the price.

Broken has received strong interest from the independent film press and we'll talk with Alex about he he, and his producer Jorge F. Rodriguez put in the quality while keeping the budget down.

The producers have been generous in showing how the effects were done via mini web documentaries.

Unsatisfied with conventional film making, Alex Ferrari decided to acquire as much knowledge about the art and craft of story telling as he could. Coming from a post production background, this versatile director combines his passion for storytelling and his post production experience with a unique visual style.

Raised in New York, now stationed in South Florida, Alex has become not only one of region's most sought after editors, but also one of its premiere directors. Alex has edited two feature films as well as editing, post supervising, and directing over 200 commercials. B R O K E N marks his directorial movie debut.
