6:26 pm - Pick our Brains
Your chance to get your technical and creative questions answered. This week we talked about: Editing 720 50P and 25P from HVX200; Reproducing the RSS driven OS X screen saver in Motion.
6:32 pm - S. E. Kenlon - Producer and Co-Director "Rune"
Rune,
co-Directed by S. E. Kenlon and Arayna Thomas, is breaking new ground
in distribution by simultaneously releasing the movie for free iPod download the same day as
the commercial DVD is
released. How can the US$10 DVD compete with free?
We'll find out when we talk with
S. E. Kenlon about Rune, and
about their distribution
plans. Rune, produced by Isis Productions,
starts with the premise of wondering if there was a way to break down
language barriers and enable all people to
understand each other's words regardless of their native tongue?
This
hugely tantalizing prospect is about to cost linguist Anna Russeau all
she's worked for and quite possibly her life in this smart, brooding
film noir starring newcomer Anna B‰umer. Russeau navigates
a world of
high-powered art collectors, thieves and fanatical government agents
who will do anything to abolish her incendiary ideas and bury the
ancient artifact she used to decode this Ur-language from which all
human speech evolved. Her only chance for success is to team with
guileless smuggler Virgil Burroughs (Robert Anthony Rio) and steal and
decipher the ancient document.
S.E. Kenlon's Sleeplessness
(about coffee, of course) won an award from Brooklyn College's film
school for best Short Screenplay. His project Beast (6 randomly selected
frames in 6 groups of 6) won an award for editing but was
simultaneously confiscated by the judging committee and its whereabouts
today are still unknown. His mathematical docu-drama The Nothing Plane, which he wrote,
directed, animated, and edited, caused a spontaneous debate among the
audience members of the Tenth Anniversary Palm Springs International
Festival of Short Films.
Cornered, a typically
avant-garde work which he made with Arayna Thomas, previewed at the
53rd annual Cannes Film Festival and also won First Place at ExpresiÛn
en Corto Film Festival.
An avowed independent artist, and a Catholic Christian Scientist
Anarchist, S.E. Kenlon is dedicated to unique art. Before writing
the script for Rune, he
co-edited a documentary
involving a run-away teenaged anarchist.
