What's the BuZZ?
Dario Sinforiani - Producer, Editor, and Professor
The Digital Production Buzz is traveling this week - with stops in Scotland, England, and Ireland! This gave us a perfect excuse to meet people that we don't normally get a chance to talk with. And this week's show proves that its great to travel!
We start in Glasgow, Scotland, where Dario Sinforiani is both an independent producer/editor, as well as a senior lecturer at Cardonald College. We were invited to Glasgow by Creative Loop Media Festival, a consortium of local colleges, to give a presentation to students to provide a real-world perspective on what our industry is like and suggest ways to get work after graduation. Dario Sinforniani is involved in this too, as a senior lecturer at Cardonald College. We spoke with him about the challenges of training students and his production experiences.

Broadcast Video Expo 2010 - London, England
Next, we travel down to London, to the Broadcast Video Expo 2010. This is both a trade event and conference series - the UK's biggest trade show focused media. We begin by inviting Kieron Seth, Managing Director for BVE back on the show. We first met him at last year's event. This year, he brings us up-to-date on the latest version of this event.
Then, Red Giant Software, manufacturer of effects plug-ins for a variety of editing systems, made two new product announcements at the show. Sean Safreed, co-founder and Director of Products for Red Giant Software, joins us to share their latest news.
Martin Brennand - Product Specialist, Imagineer Systems
Imagineer Systems made its mark in the high-end effects world with products like mokey, mocha, and motor. However, recently, they've started releasing their products for the broader market of Final Cut Pro, After Effects, and Avid. After working with mocha for Final Cut for a while, we realized that there need to be differences in designing products for these different user groups. So, we invited Martin Brennand, product specialist for Imagineer Systems, to stop by to talk about what their products do, who benefits the most from using them, and what the challenges are in marketing products to people who don't have a background in effects.
Rex Olson - Vice-president, Content Development, NewTek
We have all heard of Newtek, makers of the Tricaster. But when we checked our databases, we realized it had been more than three years since they were last on the program. Seeing their booth at BVE 2010 gave us a perfect opportunity to fix this deficiency. Rex Olson, vp of content development, visits to bring us up to date on what NewTek is doing, the latest features in Tricaster, who's using it and where it fits into the overall production environment. We were very surprised by some of the places this technology is being used!
Spencer Newbury, Product and Applications Manager, EMEA, LitePanels
LitePanels has been on the show before. But this time, we wanted to take a closer look at this technology. Spencer Newbury, product and applications manager for LitePanels, explains some of the technology behind their latest releases - LED panels that you can adjust the color for indoor or outdoor light, panels that you can spot or flood, even ways that you can gang panels together to create instruments as bright as a 6,000 watt instrument, but running on 1/20th the power. This is very cool (and THAT pun was intended...)!
