Litepanels Croma Debuts at IBC 2011

Litepanels, A Vitec Group brand, announced the premier of the Croma LED light at September’s IBC equipment exhibition in Amsterdam. Ideal for use on-camera or off, the new sleekly designed fixture provides Litepanels’ hallmark HD-friendly soft light, with variable color temperature output from daylight (5600°K) to tungsten (3200°K).

Croma is a versatile solution for run-and-gun news shooters, event videographers, or still photographers who move rapidly from one light environment to the next without time to change lighting equipment. Plus, this self-contained light can be a secret weapon on any set or location wherever extra kick or nice fill is needed, Croma provides infinite control of both color temperature and lighting intensity via two ergonomic on-fixture dials. One offers the ability to dim from 100% to zero with no noticeable color shift. The second lets the user dial-in the fill light to any point between daylight (5600°K) and tungsten (3200°K) to precisely match the ambient light.

The Croma draws just 9W, and provides the equivalent luminance output of 40W – 90W traditional fixtures. To power the fixture, the user has the choice of AA batteries, optional AC adapter or a DV Adapter Plate designed to mount Sony, Canon, Panasonic DV battery packs. Six 1.5V AA batteries install within Croma to provide power from 1.5 to 6 hours, depending on battery type.

The compact Croma weighs just 12 oz. (.4 kg) and measures 6” x 4” x 2” (54mm H x 36mm W x 102mm D).

To facilitate positioning when mounted on the camera, Croma comes complete with a metal ball head shoe mount featuring a 1/4 x 20 thread. Also supplied with the light is a carrying case and diffusion gel filter kit. An optional baseplate is available for off camera use.

Sound Devices Debuts Mix Assist Feature for 788T Digital Audio Recorder at IBC 2011

Sound Devices, specialists in production sound, is debuting Mix Assist, a new feature for the 788T Multi-Track Digital Audio Recorder, at this year’s IBC show (Hall 8, Stand E72). This new feature is available as a no-charge firmware update to all new and existing 788T customers.

Sound Devices 788T is a powerful, eight-input, 12-track digital audio recorder designed for sound engineers mixing on location for films, documentaries, episodic television and reality TV. As these applications are commonly dialog-heavy and unscripted, the new Mix Assist turns down unused microphones while instantly activating only microphones that are in use, making it easier to get clean dialog recordings. Mix Assist activates only one microphone per sound source, attenuating unused microphones by 15 dB.

Building on the proven success of the 7-Series architecture, Sound Devices 788T Multi-Track Digital Audio Recorder boasts eight full-featured inputs that ensure superb audio quality, accept either microphone or line-level signals, provide 48-V phantom power for condenser microphones, offer peak limiters for microphone inputs and feature fully adjustable high-pass filters, all in a compact package. The 788T, like all Sound Devices products, is versatile and designed to withstand the physical and environmental extremes of field production. The front panel is gasketed for water resistance.

Sound Devices Features Mixpre-D Portable Mixer at IBC 2011

AJA Video Systems Introduces the Thunderbolt-enabled Io XT

AJA Video Systems introduced Io XT, the company’s first Thunderbolt-enabled professional video I/O device.

Io XT connects to a Thunderbolt-enabled Apple computer via a single cable. An additional Thunderbolt port is provided, allowing daisy-chaining to other Thunderbolt peripherals like high bandwidth storage and high-resolution displays through a single interface; simplifying the connection of multiple devices and creating a very portable package. In addition to the wide range of supported capture and playback formats, the Io XT can unify disparate formats via its 10-bit hardware Up/Down/Cross conversion capability. Designed for today’s workflows, Io XT provides compatibility with the most popular NLE programs, the newest codecs, video formats, stereoscopic 3D workflows, and more.

AJA Announces UDC Up/Down/Cross Mini-Converter

AJA Video System introduced the UDC Up/Down/Cross Mini-Converter, a compact unit that converts between SD, HD and 3G formats to support professional video workflows.

Leveraging AJA’s industry-leading conversion technology, the UDC provides very high-quality conversions in a small and cost-effective package. I/Os include SD/HD, 3G SDI input and output, HDMI output and two-channel RCA style audio output. The UDC also supports eight-channel embedded audio. The UDC can be configured through built-in dipswitches, and AJA’s MiniConfig software via the UDC’s USB connection.

AJA Video Systems introduced the next-generation KONA LHe Plus, offering powerful video capture and playback capabilities with greater performance than its predecessor, the KONA LHe at IBC 2011.

KONA LHe Plus offers a host of professional features including 10-bit or 8-bit uncompressed video I/O, two-channel AES digital audio and eight-channel SDI embedded digital audio I/O, analog composite or s-video or SD/HD component video I/O, two-channel balanced analog audio I/O and 10-bit quality hardware down-conversion from HD to SD. Cache-A Power-Cache Archive Server

Cache-A Corporation’s new high-performance Power-Cache Archive Server combines Cache-A’s appliance functionality with more disk speed and better throughput; combines a high-performance blend of LTO-5 tape drives, 8 TB of RAID and 10Gb Ethernet technologies to provide digital media professionals with faster archive and retrieval transfers as well as greater flexibility for staging content, making duplicate tape copies and working with Cache-A Library and Expansion units.
