Telestream Integrates With Cloud-Based Production Studio make.tv

Telestream, the developers of Wirecast live streaming production software, announced that make.tv, a cloud-based live video production studio is now an integrated drop-down destination within Wirecast. This integration lets users easily send streams to make.tv, which features interactive capabilities and a cloud-based production hub that allows teams to collaborate remotely in the production.

Wirecast’s live video feeds are transmitted directly to the make.tv Studio where the stream can be mixed with other incoming live streams, enhanced with on-screen graphics, effects, interactive capabilities and uploaded media. make.tv Studio’s cloud-based design enables teams from different locations to collaborate on the same production to optimize efficiency and control. The final live stream can be broadcast live to any RTMP-capable streaming server or destination such as YouTube Live or Ustream, or CDNs including Akamai or Limelight.

Telestream to Showcase Support for 4K, HEVC and Multiplatform Workflow Solutions at CCW

Telestream, the leading provider of video transcoding and workflow solutions, has announced plans to showcase support for 4K and HEVC/H.265 encoding, plus new products and multiplatform workflow solutions at the CCW Show November 13-14 in New York City. The company is also featuring new configurations for its newly-acquired closed captioning products.

Distribution of this higher resolution format will put additional strain on compression and delivery systems. Because of the increased payload, most 4K distribution systems will utilize H.265 (HEVC) compression. Telestream co-founded the open source x265 (HEVC) project which aims to create the world’s most efficient, highest quality H.265 codec. The x265 project is being managed by development partner MulticoreWare Inc., and it is being introduced under both an open source and commercial license model. HEVC x265 encoding support will be available in Telestream Vantage transcoding products at the end of this quarter.

At CCW, Telestream is also featuring its extensive family of Vantage video transcoding products which enable multiplatform workflows for broadcast, cable, IPTV and multiscreen OTT distribution, as well as production and archiving environments. Further, GPU acceleration is available for all Vantage transcode products with Telestream’s Lightspeed Server. Telestream extends its workflow solutions for broadcast and post-production with TrafficManager and Post Producer, new products built on the Vantage platform making their east coast debut at CCW.

TrafficManager addresses several key challenges which broadcasters and cable/IPTV service providers now face. As more content is received as files instead of tapes, TrafficManager, automates media ingest from digital delivery services, processes, and delivers the media to ad-insertion or on-air servers. With hundreds of file formats to process in mixed SD and HD workflows, TrafficManager streamlines internal ad processes by automatically making decisions based upon media attributes.

Post Producer addresses the issue of repetitive rendering of different versions of media for today’s multi-language, multi-platform distribution. Based on user templates, Post Producer automatically assembles a segment or spot, compositing video, graphics, titles and captions or subtitles, and applying audio processing as required. Alternate versions are automatically created by simply substituting the necessary elements.

Telestream recently announced new, simplified product configurations for its closed captioning products, bringing them within reach of more users. MacCaption and CaptionMaker allow users to easily author, edit, encode, and repurpose video closed captions and subtitles for television, web, and mobile delivery. Utilizing exclusive e-Captioning technology and next generation CEA-708 digital captioning technology, these software products simplify the process of complying with FCC and other regulatory requirements, enabling greater access to standard and high-definition broadcast content for television, online, and mobile viewers.

In addition to demonstrating its products, Telestream director of product marketing, John Pallett, is participating in the session, A Pipe Dream No More, Advertising Workflows Have Come of Agealong with Clyde Smith, SVP new technology at Fox Network Center and Harold Geller, chief growth officer at Ad-ID, on Wednesday, November 13 from 1:15-2:15 pm in the Streaming Media Theater.

These products and technologies plus Episode media encoding and Pipeline multichannel media capture products are being featured in Telestream booth 912 at CCW which takes place at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City.

Telestream Releases New Closed Captioning Software Products

Telestream, the leading provider of digital media tools and workflow solutions, has announced a major version 6.0 release for its MacCaption and CaptionMaker closed captioning software products. With this release Telestream has simplified the product offerings with new pricing options and configurations, bringing them within reach of more users. A more intuitive user interface makes the products easier to use, saving time and effort. This is the first release since Telestream acquired CPC and its award-winning closed captioning products in August.

While more than 48 million Americans, or over 20% of the population, have hearing loss and rely on closed captions to comprehend TV shows (Lin, Niparko, & Ferrucci, 2011), closed captioning goes well beyond the deaf and hard of hearing. Closed captioning is used by a large number of non-native language viewers to help them better understand the programs they watch. Captions are also used in noisy environments such as airports, restaurants, and construction sites to supplement the audio.

Version 6.0 of MacCaption (for Mac) and CaptionMaker (for Windows) includes completely new, simplified product configurations. The Desktop configuration provides award-winning closed captioning authoring technology at a much lower price point, making it ideal for anyone who wants an affordable captioning solution. The Pro configuration adds more format support, conversion of those formats, and TV broadcast export features, required by caption service providers, TV networks, and post-production facilities. The Enterprise configuration adds automation for high-volume workflows, making it particularly useful for major networks, content providers, asset management, and distribution services. All configurations now include an exclusive, built-in Auto Time Stamp feature which dramatically reduces the time it takes to synchronize captions to the video.

All MacCaption and CaptionMaker products are now available for purchase online or through Telestream direct sales channels. New software licensing eliminates the need for dongles, simplifying the purchase and upgrade installation process.

New features and improvements in Wirecast 5 include:

  • x264 encoding enables x264 live encoding with stunning quality at lower bit rates.

  • Web stream plugin allows an IP or web-based live feed to be used as a source, supporting RTMP, RTSP, MMS or HTTP as input sources into Wirecast. This enables a Wirecast live stream to be used as a source in another Wirecast.
  • Improved H.264 playback delivers smoother playback of pre-recorded H.264 videos in Wirecast.
  • Stream delay adds an optional time buffer between the live feed and final broadcast, preventing mistakes from airing live. This is a key feature for gamers wanting to delay their live on-screen action to hide their strategy from online competitors.
