Topic: Virtual Sets

In this tutorial we will walk you through how to set up and use the various ?Trak? shots found within the ULTRA virtual set package. One of the biggest challenges is getting the timing correct for the start of the keyed clip, when the keyed talent becomes visible in the scene, and when they begin talking. As you?ll see in this tutorial, it?s actually very quick and easy.

Serious Magic Ultra: Adjust for a low saturated green screen to get excellent keys in Serious Magic's Ultra

Chapter: Keying

Topic: Clean Up and Fine Tuning

If a green screen isn’t lit well, it can end up looking very flat and washed out. This is because the green saturation isn’t very high, and that can lead to difficulty in getting a good key. With ULTRA’s color correction, we can adjust for a low saturated green screen, and get excellent keys in minutes.

Apple QuickTime: DV format movies may require adjustment for iPod

Chapter: Distribution

Topic: iPod and PlayStation Portable

With QuickTime Pro 7.0.3 or later, it’s easy to convert movies to a format that will play on video-capable iPods. Before you convert a DV format movie using QuickTime’s Movie to iPod exporter, it’s a good idea to check the movie’s display dimensions. DV format movies often need to be adjusted to a 4:3 aspect ratio (as described in the steps below). Doing this will ensure that the video of the resulting iPod-ready movie conforms to the proportions of the iPod’s display.

Seagate to buy Maxtor

Seagate Technology will purchase Maxtor Corporation in an all-stock transaction expected to be completed in the second half of 2006. Maxtor shareholders will receive .37 shares of Seagate common stock for every Maxtor share they own. The deal values Maxtor at US$1.9 Billion. At the end of the deal Seagate shareholders will own about 84% of the combine company; Maxtor shareholders will own about 16% of the combined company.

Although reducing consumer choice and probably slowing the pace of innovation, the deal is expected to add 10 to 20 percent to Seagate’s cash earnings per share after the first full year of joint operations, Seagate said in a release. Seagate expects to save about $300 million of annual operating expenses after the first full year of the combined company.

Analysts have said that Maxtor has been losing market share to Seagate, Western Digital and Hitachi despite growth in demand for computer storage. Dell Computer is Maxtor’s primary customer.
