Topic: Virtual Sets
In this tutorial we will walk you through how to set up and use the various ?Trak? shots found within the ULTRA virtual set package. One of the biggest challenges is getting the timing correct for the start of the keyed clip, when the keyed talent becomes visible in the scene, and when they begin talking. As you?ll see in this tutorial, it?s actually very quick and easy.

Renato Tarabella’s popular plugin called “”Path Deformer LITE”” is a favored tool because it does many things quickly and easily. Because the LITE version of the plugin is free, many people quickly download it, and get snagged by a couple of easily corrected mistakes. Here are a few.

If a green screen isn’t lit well, it can end up looking very flat and washed out. This is because the green saturation isn’t very high, and that can lead to difficulty in getting a good key. With ULTRA’s color correction, we can adjust for a low saturated green screen, and get excellent keys in minutes.

If you have a favorite podcast, chances are you want to take the show with you where ever you go. But if you are one of the small 15% of the MP3 player crowd that doesn?t own an iPod, taking some of the fancier (i.e. enhanced) podcasts with you may seem like an impossibility. In this Quick Tip, Stephen Schleicher shows you how to convert a M4B file into something you can burn to CD or put on one of those other music players.

With QuickTime Pro 7.0.3 or later, it’s easy to convert movies to a format that will play on video-capable iPods. Before you convert a DV format movie using QuickTime’s Movie to iPod exporter, it’s a good idea to check the movie’s display dimensions. DV format movies often need to be adjusted to a 4:3 aspect ratio (as described in the steps below). Doing this will ensure that the video of the resulting iPod-ready movie conforms to the proportions of the iPod’s display.

Seagate Technology will purchase Maxtor Corporation in an all-stock transaction expected to be completed in the second half of 2006. Maxtor shareholders will receive .37 shares of Seagate common stock for every Maxtor share they own. The deal values Maxtor at US$1.9 Billion. At the end of the deal Seagate shareholders will own about 84% of the combine company; Maxtor shareholders will own about 16% of the combined company.
Although reducing consumer choice and probably slowing the pace of innovation, the deal is expected to add 10 to 20 percent to Seagate’s cash earnings per share after the first full year of joint operations, Seagate said in a release. Seagate expects to save about $300 million of annual operating expenses after the first full year of the combined company.
Analysts have said that Maxtor has been losing market share to Seagate, Western Digital and Hitachi despite growth in demand for computer storage. Dell Computer is Maxtor’s primary customer.

Earlier this week we posted a new collection of cloud brushes for Adobe Photoshop CS and CS2. It’s a simple enough matter to use them to paint white, puffy clouds or dark storm clouds or even gray mist. But they can also be used to create dramatic sky effects–cool, clear scenes, volumetric skies, bright sunsets, etc.

While creating amazing keys in ULTRA, you may have looked down the row of input icons and wondered, ?What is that Overlay 1 window for?? or ?What options does it have?? In the past, right and left clicking on it have only brought up grayed out options. Now is the time to make those options available. Let?s create an animated overlay within ULTRA to go over our keyed clip.
