RE:Vision Effects releases Twixtor 4.5 FxPlug version for Final Cut Pro

RE:Vision releases new version of Twixtor which synthesizes unique new frames by warping and interpolating frames of the original sequence… employing RE:Vision Effects’ Academy Award winning technology that calculates motion for each individual pixel.

The After Effects-compatible version continues to work within Final Cut Pro. However, the new FxPlug version can process images in 10 bit YUV (and greater bit depths, when supported). The After Effects-compatible version only works in 8 bits per channel within FCP, but can also run in After Effects, combustion and Premiere Pro. Note that 8 bit processing within the FxPlug version is significantly faster than the After Effects-compatible version, but 10 bit or full precision YUV processing takes longer than the 8 bit processing in order to take full advantage of the extra bit depth. The FxPlug version runs within FCP 6.0.3 and up, while the After Effects-compatible version will run in any version of FCP from version 4.0 and up.

Andersson Technologies SynthEyes: Getting on track with SynthEyes 2008

Chapter: 3D Modelling and Animation

Topic: Motion Tracking in 3D

Many times I get to demo some really cool software. The cool thing about learning SynthEyes is I have been taking a great class in the software at FXPHD.com. I have been wanting to add a 3D tracker to my arsenal of tools and this is definitely it. Not only is the program robust, it is also amazingly fast. Taking advantage of Open GL on my MacPro I am able to track my footage almost in the blink of an eye. The program also exports to virtually all the 3D and compositing applications, making it a solid choice for integration.

Apple Final Cut Pro: The 'Top Gear' Effect

Chapter: Editing

Topic: Effects

What I needed was the ‘Top Gear effect’. This is the grungy, vignetted, slightly cooled colour look that they use on all their supercar footage. If this is unfamiliar to you, do a search on YouTube for ‘Top Gear’, I’m sure you’ll come across some in action on any of the supercar segment. One of my favourite things about FCP is its freedom of movement in the composite arena. Even on this ancient FCP 2 machine, I had access to the composition tools to do this job quickly and easily. In fact, this method turned out to be better than the vignette-gamma-colour one, as you’ll see later.

Apple Final Cut Pro: Exporting HDV Video from the Timeline to Standard Definition DVD

Chapter: Editing

Topic: Output

For quite sometime now, people have been posting to the Discussion boards regarding problems attempting to produce good quality standard definition DVDs when working with HDV video. HDV video does not encode well to MPEG 2. There are two ways that we can work with HDV video and get high quality standard definition DVDs. Both processes involve transcoding from HDV to Apple ProRes 422. The first process happens during capture. The second process can be used if you have already captured HDV video into FCP.

Apple Final Cut Pro: Capturing HDV Into ProRes Via FireWire

Chapter: Editing

Topic: Capture, Digitize, Import

Since HDV became a native format to edit in Final Cut Pro, there has been constant debate as to how to work efficiently, maintain as high a quality as possible when applying effects, and other issues as well. The best news on this front came recently. Starting with Final Cut Pro version 6.0.2, there are additional settings we can use when capturing HDV via FireWire that will convert the source material into Apple’s new ProRes or ProRes HQ formats. I’ll outline how to use these new settings, as well as I’ve created several new Easy Setups for you to download to avoid having to create all these yourself. (This article is an excerpt of an article from the moviola.com Resource Center. The first part is printed here, and the second part is continued at Moviola’s site, and includes goodies for you to download, namely some new Easy Setups to make your life a bit easier)
