BuZZ Shout-Out! and Jessica Sitomer Give Listeners the Competitive Edge

Agoura Hills, California – The BuZZ Shout-Out! – an innovative way to help jobs find people in the production and post-production industry – was recently launched by the Digital Production BuZZ, the foremost interactive internet talk radio show featuring news and information on digital video production, post-production and distribution. To support this effort, the BuZZ teamed with Jessica Sitomer, CEO of The Greenlight Coach, and show regular since 2009, to provide job-hunting tips as part of the program.

The Buzz asked Sitomer to write suggestions on what makes for a compelling marketing ad, and has compiled all of her dozen show interviews on the BuZZ Shout-Out! website page. Sitomer has worked in the entertainment industry for eighteen years, twelve of those years as a career coach for Entertainment Industry Professionals, and each of her interviews provides essential information on finding and keeping work.

The topics of Sitomer’s interviews include the importance of improving a resume, three things you can do when you are not getting hired, marketing tips to improve your skills when looking for work, pitfalls to avoid in marketing yourself at a trade show, how to get a job in Hollywood, and how to get a job if you don’t live in Hollywood.

“In today’s competitive job market, your job hunting skills are just as important as your creative skills,” said Larry Jordan, Executive Producer and Host of the Digital Production Buzz. “We are delighted to be working with Jessica Sitomer to provide on-going tips and techniques job hunters can use to improve their ability to find work.”

A theme that runs through Sitomer’s interviews is the emphasis she places on the business side of looking for work. “You may want your talent to speak for itself, but talent alone won’t find you a job,” says Sitomer, “You need tools and strategies for getting agents and work, because this is also a business. If you stay home, no one will find you.”

Sitomer advocates building relationships, creating extensive contact lists, taking chances, and actively networking yourself to promote your business brand. As Sitomer says, “You need to be the CEO of company YOU. You need to take action.”

One of the actions job hunters in production and post-production can take is to create a 30-second audio ad for the BuZZ Shout-Out! that describes their services and lets prospective employers know what they can do. Says Sitomer of the BuZZ Shout-Out!, “This unique promotion lets everyone in audio, film, or video production or post-production reach exactly the right market.”

“We are delighted with the response the BuZZ Shout-Out! has generated in our industry,” said Larry Jordan. “It would be great if we could give everyone a job. Since we can’t, we’re doing the next best thing – providing a free and creative way for industry professionals to help a job find them.”

The Buzz Shout-Out! is made possible by key sponsors, Data Robotics, Inc., MAXON Computer, and SmartSound Software, Inc. All are equally committed to helping industry professionals find work.

Digital Production Buzz — Oct. 28, 2010

Cory Trépanier, Jonathan Handel, Simon Chappuzeau, and Tom Bennett

We have an international show this week: Canada, Germany, New Zealand, and, ah, New York. From breath-taking fine art in the Arctic to teaching filmmakers in Berlin, you’ll find it all on this week’s show!

This week’s episode of the world’s only interactive talk radio program covering Digital Production, Post-Production and Distribution is filled with great information and entertainment designed for the independent filmmaker or industry professional.

Join host Larry Jordan, and co-host Michael Horton, as they talk with:

Cory Trépanier, Producer/Director, Campside Productions

For years, artist and filmmaker Cory Trépanier has explored some of the most wild places in Canada. Few have walked in these landscapes. Even fewer have captured them on canvas. Now he’s going further into remote and breathtaking arctic wilderness to experience, paint, and chronicle a land that might never be the same again. Cory spent three months with his team filming “Into the Arctic II” about these challenging and sometimes dangerous adventures in over a dozen arctic locations.

Jonathan Handel, Of Counsel, Troy/Gould, and Entertainment Labor Reporter for The Hollywood Reporter

Jonathan Handel is a regular on The Buzz — keeping us up-to-date on where the industry meets the law. Jonathan has been covering the Hobbit controversy in New Zealand — will the film be shot there or won’t it? Why are the unions there so worried about it? Why would anyone object when a multi-hundred-million-dollar film wants to shoot locally? The issues are complex and have an impact on the general malaise of runaway productions. Listen in as Jonathan gives us the complete low-down.

Simon Chappuzeau, CEO, Home Base Lounge

We shift locations this week to talk with Simon Chappuzeau, CEO of HomeBase Lounge – a place in Berlin where filmmakers can hang out. So, what happens when a bunch of filmmakers do nothing but hang talking? Right, they started Digital Film Camp, a networking / financing / distribution / free-form sort of thing. Perfectly understandable. This week Simon explains it all to us.

Tom Bennett, CEO, Pond 5

Pond 5 is the world’s first open marketplace for stock video footage, and they tell us it’s a better way for video professionals to buy or sell stock footage for use in productions. Recently, they announced a new program for stock footage that we want to learn more about. We’d tell you what it is, but then, it wouldn’t be a surprise when Tom tells us about it on the show!

Announcing the BuZZ Shout-out!! We announced this last week and already more than 12,000 people have checked out the site. This week, we tell you more about how to use the BuZZ Shout-Out! to help jobs find you! Best of all, the Shout-out! is FREE, thanks to our great sponsors: Smartsound, Maxon, and Drobo!

This new service lets everyone in film, video, or audio production or post-production reach a highly targeted market by creating a compelling, 30-second audio Shout-Out! that promotes their services at no cost to them.

Boris Continuum Complete 7 AVX for Avid DS Now Available

Boris FX, the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, today announced that Boris Continuum Complete 7 AVX for Avid DS (BCC 7 AVX for DS) is now available. BCC 7 AVX for DS brings over 180 filters to Avid DS. New features include a video noise reduction tool, a new OpenGL particle engine, new on-screen overlay control widgets for streamlined workflow, and support for Boris AAF Transfer.

Boris Continuum Complete 7 AVX for Avid DS new feature highlights include:

New Filters:

  • BCC Noise Reduction smoothes out video noise using spatial and temporal information derived from the video clip – especially in dark areas of an image.
  • BCC Particle Array 3D creates a grid of particles oriented in 3D space.
  • BCC Pin Art 3D creates a pin board look based on a layer image.
  • BCC Lens Blur emulates a popular lens blur or rack defocus effect where out-of-focus highlights of an image clip take on the shape of the lens shutter. The filter includes a gradient map layer to control the depth of focus.
  • BCC Lens Shape is a designer effect similar to a rack defocus effect where the shape of the bokeh can be imported from an external layer.
  • BCC Lens Transition is a wipe filter that applies a lens blur or rack defocus effect to the specular highlights of outgoing and incoming image clips.

And other features:

Compare Mode. Added to over one-third of BCC 7 AVX for DS filters, Compare Mode is a convenient tool that enables users to compare the filtered result with the unfiltered source via either a side-by-side view or a live split-screen view. In the side-by-side view, users can view the unfiltered and filtered image result in the preview window as changes are made to the image. In the split-screen view, users can drag the wipe bar anywhere across the image to compare the filtered result with the unfiltered source at any zoom level. Additionally, the Compare Mode feature includes the unique ability to view the filtered result with a live filtered layer in the timeline.

On-Screen Overlay Control Widgets. The most commonly-used parameters in each BCC AVX for DS filter are now accessible via Avid-native on-screen overlay widgets, each with dynamic parameter value displays that update automatically as the widget is adjusted. Color-coded and easy to use, the new widgets allow parameter adjustments while the editor’s eye remains focused on the image.

Performance Gains. The new BCC Pin Art 3D and BCC Particle Array 3D filters integrate a new particle engine that is OpenGL-accelerated. All BCC 7 AVX for DS filters take advantage of either multi-processing or OpenGL hardware acceleration to deliver an interactive effects design experience.

Avid Media Composer and Symphony Compatibility. BCC 7 AVX for DS filters are fully compatible with BCC 6 AVX or BCC 7 AVX effects when sequences are conformed from Avid Media Composer or Symphony projects to Avid DS.

Boris AAF Transfer Support. BCC 7 AVX for DS is supported by Boris AAF Transfer, a new plug-in that facilitates seamless transfer of Final Cut Pro sequences with BCC 7 FxPlug filters to Avid DS or Avid Media Composer. BCC 7 FxPlug filters are translated to corresponding BCC 7 AVX for DS filters – including keyframed changes.
