Boris Continuum Complete Delivers 3D Titling to Sony Vegas Pro 10

Boris FX, the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, today announced that Boris Continuum Complete v7.0.3 for Sony Vegas Pro is now available. The new Version 7.0.3 release features 3D Objects filters – BCC Extruded Text, BCC Type-On Text, BCC Layer Deformer, BCC Extruded EPS, and BCC Extruded Spline – delivering 3D extrusion capabilities to the Sony Vegas Pro 10 timeline.

New in Boris Continuum Complete v7.0.3 for Sony Vegas Pro include:

  • BCC Extruded Text – OpenGL-accelerated 3D text generator with built-in 3D shatters and a warp deformer. Multiple 3D materials can be created from external image files featuring texture and bump maps as well as reflections. Each material can be individually saved as a preset and applied to the front, back, bevel, or extrusion surface of the text object. The text object can be further deformed and animated with a number of innovative deformers such as Bend, Taper, Twist, Shatter, Ripple, Pulse, or Curl.
  • BCC BCC Type-On Text – 3D extruded text can be animated in true 3D space in a type-on or type-off fashion with each letter precisely interacting with the rest of the text in 3D. All 3D properties of the BCC Extruded Text filter are available in the Type-On effect.
  • BCC Layer Deformer – warp any 2D layer in 3D space with built-in 3D shatters and bend deformers. Create 3D shapes such as fully or partially wrapped spheres and cylinders with multiple layers mapped onto the surfaces.
  • BCC Extruded EPS – provides an easy way to import and extrude Adobe Illustrator layered vector logos and graphics inside Sony Vegas Pro.
  • BCC Extruded Spline – based on built-in primitives such as a medallion or heart. Create 3D extruded objects fully-modeled with bevels and spline-based extrusion profiles.
  • BCC Optical Stabilizer – analyzes a shaky clip and adjusts the track’s position to compensate. Unlike other stabilizing tools, BCC Optical Stabilizer does not require user-defined tracking points. This allows users to stabilize images where tracking data is unreliable. Users can also stabilize just a portion of a track to correct isolated camera bumps.
  • New Distortion and Perspective Filters include BCC 3D Image Shatter, BCC Cylinder, BCC DVE, BCC DVE Basic, BCC Page Turn, and BCC Sphere Transition.

BCC v7.0.3 for Vegas Pro is a free update for BCC v7.x for Vegas Pro users.

In this case, Alfred Hitchock’s classic “North by Northwest.” Beautifully restored, the film was recently presented in brilliant 4K digital projection to members of the Hollywood community and screened on the latest generation Christie Digital 4K DLP Cinema projector. This was the world’s first full feature screening using a 4K DLP. Our question is “Good Grief! Is 4K REALLY necessary? We just got switched over to HD!” Tune in and find out the answer — and how you can benefit from the latest technology.

Rodney Mitchell, President, DCFCPUG

Rodney Mitchell is the president of the Washington, DC, Final Cut Pro User Group, and a long-time exhibitor at GV Expo. He is also heading up the team of reporters we are sending to cover GV Expo next week for The Buzz. This week, though, we want to talk with Rodney about why a user group would exhibit at a trade show and his sense of what to expect at the show.

Scott Gordon, CEO, Word Wizards, Inc.

Scott Gordon CEO of Word Wizards Inc., has made a career of turning audio into text. And, for the last 13 years, he has run a panel at GV Expo helping private sector production and post-production folks land jobs with the federal government. In this wide-ranging interview, we discuss his “Meet the Producers” panel at Government Video Expo, what producers need to know about captioning their media to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the role free-lancers play in meeting the media needs of the government.

Bruce Nazarian, The Digital Guy

Bruce Nazarian, The Digital Guy, is an insider when it comes to conferences. From attendee to speaker to organizer, he brings a unique perspective which we want to share with you. We asked Bruce to take a look at the schedule for Government Video Expo 2010 – starting next week in Washington, DC, and share some of the highlights of some “must see events” that caught his eye.

Jack Reilly, Event Manager, Future Media Concepts

Jack Reilly is the event manager for Future Media Concepts. As such, he’s responsible for the entire FMC training program at next week’s GV Expo. LaCie Partners with Pro Sound Effects to Deliver a Premier Digital Experience

LaCie, a provider of professional storage solutions, together with Pro Sound Effects, provider of professional sound effects libraries and solutions, announced a strategic partnership that will deliver premium sound effects libraries and search software on industry-leading hard drives, for an enhanced media production experience.

The BBC Sound Effects Library is considered one of the most popular sound effects libraries in the world. Until now, the original BBC Sound Effects Library was available only on audio CD, making it cumbersome for media producers to search, audition, select and import sound effects. The new partnership creates a complete digital experience for media production professionals. By combining database sound files with hard drive technology and search software, professionals in a number of influential markets – media producers in film television, radio, video games, animation, advertising, education, mobile and new media – have a comprehensive sound design solution that optimizes content integration and workflow.

The partnership delivers five BBC sound libraries on two of the most recognized desktop and mobile storage solutions available – the LaCie d2 Quadra and the LaCie Rikiki. The largest of the libraries, created by Pro Sound Effects, leverages the original 2400 sound effects, while including an additional 30,000 commercial sound effects that were previously unavailable. Now, the entire library of 32,400 sounds effects can be purchased in one complete collection on a LaCie’s award-winning, one terabyte, d2 Quadra.

The d2 Quadra was developed for full compatibility, including four interfaces – eSATA 3Gb/s, FireWire 800, FireWire 400, and USB 2.0— for universal connectivity to PC and Mac workstations. Additionally, the d2 Quadra features a unique, fanless design, keeping it quiet and safe in any production environment.

The smaller sound collections can be purchased on LaCie’s Rikiki, the most compact high-capacity hard drive on the market. The sleek black mobile hard drive is enclosed in brushed aluminum and can fit in a pocket for absolute mobility and data protection.

Telestream Releases Vantage 2.0

Telestream, a provider of video transcoding and workflow solutions, announced a major release for Vantage enterprise-class workflow design and automation software. Major new features in Vantage 2.0 include Vantage Workflow Portal, which enables creation and deployment of operator user interfaces in minutes for browsing video, entering metadata, and forwarding media. A new SDK allows customers and third-party systems to easily access and control Vantage workflows. New GraphicsFactory integration allows template-based layered graphics and audio to be applied during a transcode. Many video workflow analysis and transcoding format support capabilities are also new.

Since initial product release last spring, Vantage has been deployed to major media and entertainment companies around the world. Outdoor Channel, America’s leader in outdoor television, uses Vantage to enable greater operational efficiency and quickly deliver any file type to any destination for domestic and international needs.

New in V2.0, Vantage Workflow Portal allows media and entertainment companies to streamline the human element of their video workflows, adding direct human interaction as necessary without the need for custom web engineering. Vantage Workflow Portal makes it easy to create and deploy customized user interfaces that allow common operator tasks, such as metadata entry, review and approval, content routing, simple tagging and video stitching.

A new SDK simplifies Vantage integration directly into existing software systems using a web services interface. New database redundancy capability allows a SQL server mirror-with-witness model to be used with Vantage. Version 2.0 also adds delivery and send-to-playback support for Avid Interplay 2.2 editing environments.

A key Vantage component, Vantage Analysis, goes beyond content verification to enable users to automate smart transcoding and self-healing quality control workflows. Vantage 2.0 adds MPEG-2 video level and gamut checking, macroblocking artifact detection and several other new analysis features. Further, a new Compute function allows automated mathematical functions to be performed upon analysis results, driving intelligent decision-making and automatic correction of many types of errors.

New transcoding support in Vantage 2.0 includes: MainConcept .CFG file support for H.264 encoding, Omneon AVC Intra and SAMMA JPEG-2000 decoding, and several other new capabilities. A new Telestream EDL XML playlist format allows MPEG-2 stitching without requiring a full transcode, and Vantage Workflow Portal provides an interface for creating these playlists.

Vantage is a video workflow design and automation software solution that was built from the ground up on a modular, future-proof platform that combines video capture, transcoding, analysis, metadata processing, delivery, and file management into a unified framework – all designed to meet the long-term needs of a rapidly changing video industry.
