Quantum Unveils DXi 2.0

Quantum Corp., a global specialist in backup, recovery and archiving solutions, announced DXi 2.0, the next generation software platform for its DXi-Series disk backup and deduplication solutions. DXi-Series models running DXi 2.0 software, beginning with the latest generation SMB and midrange systems, will deliver the highest deduplication speeds available for any open protocol inline appliance in their respective classes, doubling the performance over earlier generation DXi products with no change in price. As a result, users will be able to protect more data on smaller systems, further solidifying the price-performance leadership of the DXi-Series.

Features include:

  • DXi-Series products utilizing the new 2.0 software will see performance increased by up to 2X or more for open protocols, including both Symantec OpenStorage (OST) and conventional NAS interfaces.
  • Offered at the same price as the DXi products with version 1.x software, the new DXi appliances running DXi 2.0 software will be clear price-performance leaders in their segments, with as much as a 5X advantage over the nearest competitive offerings.
  • DXi 2.0 software creates a new inline data flow that is optimized for Quantum’s latest generation of purpose-built DXi deduplication appliances, simplifying the data path and improving performance.
  • By providing high-performance deduplication across open protocols, the DXi appliances make their shorter backup and restore windows available to any IT department using any of the leading backup software applications.
  • A DXi4500 running DXi 2.0 software will deduplicate at up to 1.4 TB/hour for NAS and 1.7 TB/hour for OST — faster than any other entry-level open protocol appliance.
  • A DXi6500 running DXi 2.0 software will deduplicate at up to 4.3 TB/hour for NAS and 4.6 TB/hour for OST — faster than any other midrange open protocol appliance.
  • Quantum’s high-performance DXi6700 VTL and multi-protocol, enterprise-class DXi8500 appliances will see significant performance gains when they begin shipping with DXi 2.0 software.
  • Quick to Deploy and Easy to Manage

The new DXi 2.0 software provides enhanced management features that significantly streamline deployment, monitoring and administration of the entire data protection process, saving IT managers time, even in complex multi-site backup and disaster recovery environments.

DXi 2.0 employs a full set of installation wizards and optimized management screens for fast set-up and ongoing administration, reducing the total number of screens for common operations by 50 percent to 65 percent and enabling administrators to get more done in less time.

The new software leverages the multi-tier, purpose-built appliance design of the newest DXi models, and it continues to support the DXi direct path-to-tape functionality that integrates high-speed disk backup with low-cost retention under a single point of control.

Vaddio Launches Hot-Shot Preset Camera Controller and YPbPr to DVI-D Format Converter

Vaddio, a maker of robotic PTZ cameras and camera control systems is now shipping the new Preset Camera Controller and the YPbPr to DVI-D Format Converter.

The Hot-Shot Preset Camera Controller adds automated PTZ camera control to a videoconferencing system camera. By using the camera presets stored in the codec, the Hot-Shot controller can be externally triggered by any number of different trigger devices such as a microphone switcher/mixer, StepVIEW presence-sensing mats, AutoVIEW IR sensors, the new PresenterPOD or any other triggering/logic output device. Each Hot-Shot controller can control up to 36 presets.

Currently the Hot-Shot works with the Polycom HDX-8000 and HDX-900 Series, LifeSize Room System Series, TANDBERG C40, C60, C90, and the older TANDBERG 6000MXP and 3000MXP Series codecs. For use with other control systems, the Vaddio simple ASCII API is also included to alleviate the need for multiple I/O or relay cards/boxes associated with large control systems. Up to four Hot-Shot Controllers can be linked via RS-232 for up to 144 total triggers.

The YPbPr to DVI-D Format Converter changes analog component video to DVI/HDMI. Whether the output signal is 480i, 576i, 720p, 1080i or 1080p, video can be converted to a digital signal to work with a variety of third-party devices such as videoconferencing codecs and multi-format switchers.

Atlona Introduces Installation Testing Kits

Atlona Technologies released three cost-effective custom installation testing kits designed to diagnose 99-percent of all digital connectivity issues in moments, saving both time and overhead. The AT-KIT-HD1, AT-KIT-PROHD2, and AT-KIT-PROHD3 kits combine an HDMI signal generator and seven-inch HDMI monitor in a high-quality Pelican case, while the AT-KIT-PROHD3 also features the AT-HDSync HDMI EDID emulator and AT-BAT-DIS7PRO monitor battery.

All testing kits released include the Atlona AT-HD800 portable HDMI signal generator. The AT-HD800 allows users to diagnose specific resolution, video timing, EDID, and color space issues in any DVI or HDMI video system. The AT-HD800 features 13 test patterns, including 3D tests side by side, top and bottom, and frame packing, a format that is mandatory for all HDMI 1.4 devices. This powerful pocket-sized signal generator features an HDMI output as well as an HDMI pass-through to easily switch between test patterns and content from any other digital sources, while also giving the ability to read the EDID from the input source and showing it on the display.

The AT-KIT-HD1 features the award-winning AT-DIS7-HD, a seven-inch testing monitor that recognizes any HDMI or DVI source at resolutions up to 1080p, and allows users to observe both audio and video signals in real time. The compact display allows users to view signal information such as High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) compliance, resolution, frequency, digital format, and audio information. The AT-KIT-PROHD2 and AT-KIT-PROHD3 kits are bolstered with the AT-DIS7-PROHD seven-inch testing monitor, which recognizes any HDMI, DVI, VGA, or component video source at resolutions up to 1080p or 1920×1200. The AT-DIS7-PROHD can also be used to test 3D sources.

The AT-KIT-PROHD3 kit also features the AT-BAT-DIS7PRO five-hour monitor battery, in addition to the AT-HDSync HDMI EDID emulator. The AT-HDSync is a perfect device for fixing any EDID, hot plug, or sync issue. Almost 90-percent of all issues when installing HDMI equipment are related to missing EDID or incorrect read-out. The AT-HDSync stores the EDID information and recalls a default EDID setting in non-volatile memory that supports HDCP handshaking. The device can also generate a missing hot plug, and will stay in line to maintain the hot plug at all times.
