New interviews every week! Join Larry Jordan and Michael Horton as they talk with:

Anthony Nalli, Executive Producer, The Aviators

The Aviators is a PBS reality / science show that follows the adventures of a group of pilots and aviation experts. Viewership of this program is skyrocketing and now boasts almost 10 million people per week in the U.S. and about 30 million internationally. We talk with Executive Producer, Anthony Nalli about how he created the show.

Terry Curren, Founder/President, Alpha Dogs Inc.

Many independent producers are not given the luxury of owning expensive video decks and equipment. Working with limited budgets and small production and post-production teams makes completing projects even more challenging.  AlphaDogs Digital Service Station is an interesting solution and Terry Curren, Founder and President join us this week to tell us more.

Bjoern Adamski, Product Marketing Manager, Flip4Mac, Telestream

Earlier this week, Telestream released the latest version of Flip4Mac, the long-time workhorse for supporting Windows Media files on the Mac. This week, we talk with Bjoern Adamski, product marketing manager for Telestream, about what’s in the new version, along with the brand-new Flip Player. Both of these can make a media producer’s life a lot easier – join us as Bjoern explains.

Jonathan L, Radio Producer and Host, Lopsided World of L

Jonathan L is an American-born radio deejay, programmer and publisher who currently broadcasts via the internet from Berlin. His show, “The Lopsided World of L,” features independent alternative bands and is heard around the world. We caught up to him on one of his rare visits to Los Angeles and it is good to have him back.

The Buzz is all the information you need now to know what’s coming next!

The Digital Production BuZZ airs LIVE Thursday from 6-7 PM Pacific Daylight Time. Ask questions during the show on our Live Chat, listen live, download an episode from the archives, or subscribe to the podcast either through iTunes or our website. Whatever you do, DON’T miss this week’s show!

SK Planet Announces Pincam iPhone App Now Available for Free

SK Planet announced a price reduction to the new app Pincam, a video-trimming application for iPhone that is now available for free. Pincam enables users to save only the best moments of mobile video and trim out the rest by simply pressing the “pin” button while recording. Pincam is the easiest way for iPhone users to capture video highlights on the go, beautify them and share them with the world on a moment’s notice.

By tapping on the “pin” button, users can create a one-of-a-kind highlight real of memorable moments on the go. Each “pin” captures 1.5 seconds prior to and 3.5 seconds after each highlighted clip, so users do not have to worry about missing a priceless moment. The app then combines the moments into one highlight reel of up to 30 seconds. The length of each “pin” is shortened accordingly for videos with seven or more selections to fit the 30-second max time frame. Once the user saves the edited video, it can be accessed in the Pincam Gallery while the original version can be found in the iPhone’s Camera Roll.

In addition to Pincam’s trim-while-recording feature, the app offers users a set of 20 image-enhancing filters that make the highlight reel even more fun at no additional cost. Users can share their highlight videos to Facebook, YouTube or email so friends and family can instantaneously enjoy the priceless moments. If users have existing videos in their Camera Roll that they would like to edit with Pincam, they can use the import feature to create a highlight reel of their pre-existing favorite videos.

Until Pincam, creating, uploading and sharing highlight videos has required the help of complicated editing tools. Pincam saves users time and hassle without compromising the quality of their beloved videos. The free app makes it possible for users on the go to record, edit and share special moments as they unfold before their eyes.

Pincam features:

  • Ability to edit while recording
  • Access to 20 free artistic filters
  • Take video and audio recordings
  • Share instantly on Facebook, YouTube and email
  • Ability to edit existing videos
  • Simple and fast user interface
  • Option to tag user location

The Foundry and Luxology Merge

Visual effects software developer, The Foundry, announced its merger with Luxology. The two companies are a great fit in terms of technology and markets. The combined portfolio will open doors to new ways of working, providing artists and designers with increased creative choice.

The Foundry with its stable of award-winning 2D and 3D VFX software, including industry standard compositor NUKE, sees Luxology’s complementary technology as a natural addition.

Luxology’s innovative 3D modeling and rendering technology and its flagship product, modo, are world class and favored by thousands of artists and designers globally.

The collective product range is very exciting, but equally important is the shared ethos of the two companies and the staff within them. Both The Foundry and Luxology have strong reputations for being community driven and good collaborators. They are widely recognized for building tools around customer needs, providing artist-friendly workflows and great support.

This union will allow the companies to push the boundaries for customers across a wide range of industries.

A year ago, at a chance meeting organised by ILM, John Knoll threw down the challenge of integrating products from both companies. This initially sparked the idea that the two companies could be a greater force together than apart and the merger idea snowballed from there.

Telestream Releases Flip4Mac 3.0 Including New Multi-Format Video Player

Telestream, a provider of digital media tools and workflow solutions, has released Flip4Mac 3.0, the official Windows Media player on the Mac. The completely modernized V3.0 software includes Flip Player, a new multi-format video player for the Mac. Flip Player offers high-quality video playback in a wide range of popular video formats, for the Web, smart phones, and high-definition movies. An upgrade to Flip Player Pro adds unique features such as intuitive video editing and iPhone ringtone export capabilities.

Flip Player is a free multi-format media player for Mac OS X that provides MOV, MP4, H.264 and AAC support, as well as WMV and WMA support via Flip4Mac. Telestream is committed to offering additional media format support in future releases. Navigation controls fade in only when needed and never on top of the video. For brilliant and distraction-free video playback, a Dim Lights feature shades background elements without entering full-screen mode and by preserving full pixel-to-pixel fidelity. Export support is also included for Apple apps, such as iMovie, iPhoto, Mail, and Final Cut Pro.

Flip Player Pro adds unique export options and powerful editing capabilities, such as visual scaling, visual cropping, trimming with in/out points, and rotation. Advanced navigational controls include JKL playback and slow-motion playback. No other video player provides the ability to quickly and frame-accurately trim sound from a movie scene and export it to an iPhone ringtone. In addition, Flip Player Pro adds export to Final Cut Pro, and converts WMV and WMA to other formats via Flip4Mac.

Flip Player is the only free multi-format video player for the Mac with official Microsoft support for Windows Media playback. In a world with about 90% Windows market share, Flip Player and Flip4Mac fill an important need for the Mac community. These intuitive, QuickTime-based tools bridge the gap between Mac and Windows environments. For users switching from Windows to Mac, they enable access to Windows Media content and easy integration with a Windows-based infrastructure. In addition, Flip Player complies with all intellectual property laws.

Flip4Mac 3.0 supports OS X Mountain Lion, including Gatekeeper, a new feature in Mountain Lion which allows users to install Flip4Mac safely and securely. Additional 64-bit improvements support the latest QuickTime Player.

Flip4Mac 3.0, Flip Player, and Flip Player Pro are now available and supported by Telestream and distributed by Microsoft.

PortableACPower.com, Inc. Announces New Freedom-1 Portable AC Power Solution

PortableACPower.com, Inc. has announced the availability of the new Freedom-1 take-anywhere portable AC power solution, which allows production professionals to take high-quality 110V or 230V AC power anywhere in the world.

Almost every piece of digital and cine equipment can run off of AC power. The Freedom-1 AC power system is the ideal source for the wave of lightweight, ultraportable lighting fixtures, from Litepanels 1×1 and Sola Fresnel Series to Joker 200 HMIs by K5600 and the like. Plus, Freedom-1 is just the thing to run video monitors, charge mobile phones and even camera batteries while on location.

Many pieces of electronic gear used in production are particularly sensitive to unclean power sources. Freedom-1’s electronics-friendly technology provides precisely conditioned, pure sine-wave AC power, just like the AC provided in studio environments.

Available in 110V/60Hz or 230V/50Hz AC models, Freedom-1 gives production crews the ability to work quickly and nimbly in the field, without need to haul around bulky, noisy generators or stay tethered to hard-to-find utility-supplied electricity. Freedom-1 provides 3 outlets, making it possible to run or charge multiple devices at the same time.

The Freedom 1 Power Solution is packaged with a removable F1 Power Module. Each Power Module can easily be removed and exchanged within the Freedom-1 system, and the F1 Power Module can be recharged from an AC or DC power source (such as an automobile’s 12V system), while inside the Freedom-1 or removed from it.

In its Normal Mode, each removable F1 Power Module can power a Litepanels 1×1 fixture for 2 hours, 20 minutes. In its HD Mode (high current), each removable Freedom-1 battery can power a Joker 200 Watt light for 30 minutes. For longer run times, additional power modules are available. A built-in fuel gauge allows the video professional to monitor the Power Module’s remaining battery life available, and Freedom-1’s small form factor (10”x 6.6”x 10” /25cm x 17cm x 25cm) makes it easy to store and transport.

The Freedom-1 power supply is engineered with safety at the forefront. The unit is protected against overload, short circuit and high-voltage input.

The Freedom-1 solution is offered at a special introductory price, including an F1 Power Module. Plus, while supplies last, each Freedom-1 system will also ship with a second F 1 Power Module, free.
